The overall crime rate in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Statistical Area was 2,428.1 per 100,000 population in 2014, the second-lowest crime rate of the 11 benchmark regions. D.C. experienced the lowest rates of aggravated assault and burglary among all the benchmark regions.
