Smoking rates in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Statistical Area remain one of the lowest among the 11 benchmark regions, according to the latest data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Some 14.6 percent of residents in the region are smokers, above only Los Angeles and San Francisco.
